Myanmar-China Fiber-optic Network Establishment Completed

As a part of the ISN (Information Superhighway Network) project of the GMS (Greater Mekong Subregion) Economic Cooperation, comprising the six countries of China, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam, a fiber-optic network connecting China and Myanmar has been established, Xinhua News Agency reported. Construction on the network originated in April 2007.

 

According to the same report, the new ISN fiber-optic network connects China's Kunming and Myanmar's Muse and further extends to the city of Yangon. The establishment of Myanmar-China network is projected to help improve the local telecommunications services, including international phone services, Internet access, and videoconferencing. Aside from this new network, Myanmar also has an ISN fiber-optic network connecting Myanmar and Thailand. At present, there are ready 12 ISN networks in the GMS.
